When to stop driving and tap into your many transportation options.

It’s not something you want to do. The decision to stop driving is one of the first milestones in our elders’ transition from being fully independent to relying on others. In this case for transportation. You can no longer come and go as you please. Yet the risk to yourself and others is big.

But how do you determine if it’s time to stop driving?

  • You’ll need to evaluate your eyesight, reflexes, and medications.

  • Equally important, how’s the traffic? Are you driving in a bustling metropolis with lots of impatient drivers or a less congested suburb, or quiet rural area?

  • If you give up the keys, how will you get around? What are the transportation options? Do you have family and friends that can help you with errands, getting to church, or out on the town?

  • What’s ride sharing? Is it right for you? How do you get the app and use it to call for someone to pick you up? And what’s an “app” anyway?

Stories in this category will help you and your loved ones navigate without The Car.
